Jack Whitney,

President

We purchased our property in South Bethany in 1979 because we spent many of our vacations here and we loved the area.  Since, after that time, we were either living overseas or had kids in private schools or universities, we delayed building our house until 2007 when I initially retired from the Foreign Service.  We move into our house that year but continued commuting to DC for the next 2 years until we accepted an assignment in Germany for 2 years.  We returned in 2011 and have remained in South Bethany on a full time basis since then.

I am a civil engineer and spent nearly 20 years in the military and in private sector doing design and construction.  I joined the Foreign Service in 1985, and for the past 30 years have been actively involved with many assignments and projects overseas.  It has been great to return here and finally settle down.  I served on the SPBOA Board as a Vice President in 2008 and 2009 before departing for our adventures in Germany (our first tour in a first world country).  I am now also an active member of the Town’s Planning Commission and the Water Quality Committee.  I am eager to work with the SBPOA membership and look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can better serve our property owners and the Town of South Bethany.

Lora Caputo,

Vice President & Neighborhood Watch Chair

I was born in Detroit, Michigan. After college at Ferris State, I stayed in Big Rapids where I worked as a computer project manager. I led the installation of the Payroll, Finance, and Human Resource software systems. After retiring (at age 48! with 30 years) I consulted for Ferris for 2 years. My husband, Tony, and I moved to South Bethany in 2006 to the house we built in 1997. Sadly, he passed away in September 2016, after nearly 8 years of fighting prostate cancer.

I am currently the Neighborhood Watch Chair, which involves maintaining the SBPOA database, creating the mailings for membership, giving the walkers list of the homes to watch, planning 2 luncheons per year, and trying to find walkers. In recent years I’ve been the VP and President of the South Bethany Women’s Club, been active with the SB Historical Society, and co-chair of the South Coastal Library Book Sales.

My son, James, is an advanced materials engineer in Austin, TX where he works for YETI. My daughter Elizabeth is a board certified Internal Medicine MD and is currently living in Chicago where she is working at the University of Chicago hospital and doing a fellowship in medical ethics. My stepson, Collin, is a computer systems manager and lives in Annapolis with his family, and my stepdaughter, Julia, is in real estate sales and lives in Philadelphia.

I’m unsure of my plans for the future at this point, but I’m sure it’s going to be an adventure!

Sharon Polansky,

Communications

“I’m living the dream” use to be a phrase people used that I never fully believed true, that is, until we bought our house in South Bethany in November 2015. However, for now, it’s only half the dream as my husband and I are based in DC and only can be here as our schedules permit, certainly not enough. Eager to be part of the community, I have jumped in, learning as I go, getting to know our neighbors and proud to be on the Planning Commission and on the SBPOA executive board, and hoping that the future will enable me to commit to more civic engagement here.

I have worked in marketing/marketing research for the majority of my career, with my first job at The Gallup Organization after I completed my Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by a succession of consulting and client-side stints at major companies across the US. I have lived, worked and studied in many places – Cincinnati; upstate rural (Hamilton) and suburban New York State and New York City (BA from NYU); Champaign-Urbana (MS in Journalism from U of Illinois); Jacksonville (FL); Augusta (GA); Raleigh (NC); Princeton (NJ); Cape Town, South Africa; Monterrey, Mexico; and now Washington, where we have a very vibrant social life and I also volunteer. We are empty nesters, with one son in San Francisco and another in NYC and a daughter abroad, making South Bethany, as far as I can see, the obvious nexus point for our family!

I look forward to making Delaware our full-time home, albeit still in the future, and to doing what I can to contribute to the success of the SBPOA and our community.

Tim Saxton,

Treasurer

Jane Vandall,

Secretary

Kent Stephan,

Vice President

Bobbe and I bought our home on South Anchorage in 1988. We made it our legal residence in ’09.

During my working years, I was VP of sales and marketing for an OTC pharmaceutical business. I later co-founded and was CEO of Princeton Brand Econometrics LLC. In the military, I was a company commander and brigade intelligence officer in the 2nd Armored Division.

My education consists of a BS from Penn State and an MBA from The University of Chicago.

I am currently a member of the Community Enhancement Committee and the Public Relations Committee. Earlier, I spent a few years on the Budget & Finance Committee.
